GradStudentProjects.ca will maintain a database of projects that can be suggested by anyone, inside or outside of academia, and undertaken by any registered graduate student. It provides real-world (non-academic) idea-people with access to the global pool of grad-student researchers students doing various reseach projects as part of their graduate school education. GradStudentProjects.ca might be thought of as a SourceForge.Net for graduate level research projects.
In several places on the GradStudentFantasies.ca home page are notices that this is NOT an adult or sex site but actually does have something to do with the education and research of graduate students at universities.
The services now to be provided by GradStudentProjects.ca were at that time intended as an important part of GradStudentFantasies.ca and still may be available from that site. But simply selecting the domain name GradStudentFantasies.ca which superficially has little connection to other SocialTechnology.ca sister-sites seems to be undersampling in domain-name space, and could cause serious aliasing problems.
Listing merely the one domain name or URL for GradStudentFantasies.ca as a link on any other web site seems to just confuse the webpage reader.
Instead, web pages wishing to provide a link to GradStudentFantasies.ca can now list GradStudentProjects.ca above it, and the sequence of two URLs will be much easier to understand, though perhaps less of a provocative tease.

The generic term 'projects' is intentionally ambiguous and is meant to cover not only research that could be performed and written up as a thesis or dissertation, or as part of such research, but also lesser projects, many of which are informal and may neither be submitted for approval nor academic credit. Some of these may just be webpages or websites or simple piece of software, intended only to be of some use to somebody, not as part of any course of studies at any institution. Vast numbers of such helpful sites and useful (usually free, often open-source) pieces of software created by grad-students are currently available on the WWWeb.
This website should not in any way change the roles of student and advisor or supervisor, and is meant only as a source of project ideas for students and as a medium of communication by which ideas from inside and outside the academic world can reach students seeking inspiration.
Students should take possibly appropriate ideas they find here to their advisors or supervisors for approval or advice in choosing from amongst them, and should still give first priority to project ideas suggested by their advisors.
This website was, in part, inspired by an idea from the idea-rich but otherwise poor Aaron Agassi , co-author of the CASA Proposal , (see also www.CASocialActivity.Com ) who at one time attempted to lure prospective summer interns to work on a Computer Assisted Social Activity project, (which probably could not have provided a summer internship program at all, and would not have been a good one even if it was possible, ... unless of course the remarkably ambitious CASA project was successful, (it's not ... yet) in which case it would have been very good indeed).
Matching graduate students to (academic or) realworld projects via this GradStudentProjects.ca website will at first support only searches for projects by students (or their advisors), but could eventually use combinatorial optimization (e.g. bipartite matching algorithms) such as are described on the SocialTechnology.ca website and in the CASA Proposal , and which in a much less ambitious project are apparently used in the real world to match doctors wishing to be residents to teaching hospitals.
The right way to match prospective summer interns to Internet-based enterprises would be with something like the GradStudentProjects.ca database and its supporting software. Perhaps someone should start up a similar organization for the purpose, perhaps with a website named SummerInternProjects.ca -- that domain name seems to be available, now, at the time these words are written.
How soon the GradStudentProjects.ca database and its supporting software are actually available (in free open-source format) for download or online use will depend on how quickly we can can find grad-students who want to work on implementing them --

since this idea and website might never get off the ground if launched from this project homepage alone, without any examples, someone has had to do a temporary demo implementation, with some data in it
the first example-implementation, which is either below or on another webpage, (link to be added here when available), is not so much an implementation as a sample report such as might result from a search of the data, and it contains just a microscopic amount of example data, a small list of possible projects for grad-students to think about, hard-coded into the page's HTML source code
this example-implementation (or report) is just a web page, and does not include any database or support software, which will be added later as time and volunteer labour permit
until the database and support software are added, people looking for grad-student projects may search for and find the example data using a search engine such as Google which will at least find the web page and subject section heading anchor
additional project names, webpage URLs, and descriptions that could be added to this example, and to the actual project database when it becomes available, can be e-mailed here -- online data entry will replace this e-mail submission process as soon as possible

is a blog about these important topics, which I have been told should never
be mentioned in polite conversation. Alright that advice does seem
a bit dated, but many people are still told not to bring up these subjects
around the dinner table.
I believe I was the first person on the Internet to use the phrase Social
Technology -- years before the Web existed.
Those were the good old days, when the number of people using the net
exceeed the amount of content on it, so that it was easy to start a discussion
about such an upopular topic. Now things are different. There
are so many web pages that the chances of anyone finding this page are low,
even with good search engines like Google. Oh, well.
By Social Technology I mean the technology for organizing and maintaining
human society. The example I had most firmly in mind is the subject
of Find
Compatibles, what I consider to be the key page, the one with the real
solution to all other problems explained.
As I explained on my early mailing lists and later webpages, I find
that social technology has hardly improved at all over the years.
We still use representative democracy, exactly the same as it was used in
the 18th century. By contrast, horse and buggy transporation has been
replaced by automobiles and airplanes, enormous changes.
In the picture below you will see some 18th century technology, such
as the ox-plow in the middle of the picture. How things have changed
since then in agricultural technology. But we still use chance encounters,
engagements and marriages to organize our home life and the raising of children.
I claim that great advances in social technology are not only possible
but inevitable. I have written three novels about this, one preposterously
long, 5000 pages, another merely very very long, 1500 pages. The third
is short enough at 340 pages to be published some day. Maybe. The
topic is still not interesting to most people. I will excerpt small
parts of these novels on the web sometime, maybe even post the raw text for
the larger two.
This site includes many pages dating from 1997 to 2008 which are quite out
of date. They are included here partly to show the development of these
ideas and partly to cover things the newer pages do not. There will
be broken links where these pages referenced external sites. I've tried
to fix up or maiintain all internal links, but some will probably have been
missed. One may wish to look at an earlier
version of this page, rather longer, and at an
overview of most parts of what can be called
a bigger project.

I have used a series of e-mail address over the years, each of which
eventually became out of date because of a change of Internet services or
became almost useless because of spam. Eventually I stuck with a Yahoo
address, but my inbox still fills up with spam and their spam filter still
removes messages I wanted to see. So I have switched to a new e-mail
service. Web spiders should not be able to find it, since it is hidden
in a jpeg picture. I have also made it difficult to reach me. The
picture is not a clickable link. To send me e-mail you must want to
do so badly enough to type this address in. That is a nuisance, for
which I do apologize, but I just don't want a lot of mail from people who
do not care about what I have to say.
