Social Technology Wiki

A wiki associated with the Social Technology website.

What is Social Technology?

It is Technology for Social Purposes:

-- social networking

-- interpersonal matching

-- career management

-- education

-- law and government

-- social change

It is about Applications of the Social Sciences:

-- behavioral science

-- psychology

-- sociology

-- social geography

-- demographics

A new site to support software development has been created at The Social Technology Software Development Project. A more general purpose site to support both hardware and software development has been created at this Development Site. It is likely that only the second of these two sites will continue to grow and be maintained, but it may be useful to have both.

After almost two decades of providing information pages and perhaps treating Social Technology as a cause, it has become clear that what this wiki and its associated website represent is actually a project. Personnel to carry out this project will be needed, including people who can lend the project their credibility. The author of these pages should not be thought of as the leader of this project -- there is no leader at the moment. Funding will need to be sought and funds managed. There are no individuals associated with the project who are capable of performing these functions. All this is seen as a non-profit organization, it is not yet incorporated. People to do that are needed. Though not for profit, it is likely that at some point full time personnel will be needed, and they should receive some sort of wage to pay for their time, even if the majority of project members are volunteers.

To further development of social technology there is now a site for those interested in profitable new ventures, Advanced Social Technology for Entrepreneurs.

The logos for the original version of the main website featured the phrase "Genuine Solutions to Social Problems". These problems may be global, local or even individual. An individual may face the problem of finding a friend, job, spouse or lover. A genuine solution to this problem will not be found with the primitive social technology of Facebook or similar social utilities. There are billions of people in the world, millions of very eligible candidates for the friend or job or spouse you seek, but there is currently no way to find the best available person from amongst those candidates. How could Facebook solve such a problem? Not at all. But genuine solutions are possible, and are being developed.
